Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS (Software as a Service) is an IT delivery model in which applications are hosted in the cloud and are typically accessed by users via a web browser over the Internet.
The applications are managed by a cloud services provider (such as Broadfire), rather than by the corporate IT department. The cloud services provider manages access to the applications including security, availability, upgrades, maintenace and performance.
SaaS is generally associated with business software and is typically thought of as a low-cost, on-demand way for businesses to obtain the same benefits of commercially licensed, internally operated software without the complexity and high initial cost (CapEx).
SaaS has become a common delivery model for many business applications including: business email, online collaboration & document management, customer relationship management (CRM) and most recently virtual desktops.
